Unity College, in association with the Entrepreneurship Institute
Australia (EIA), offers students from all around the world the opportunity
to come to London to study a postgraduate programmed specialising in
entrepreneurial management. EIA is based in Adelaide, South Australia and
is accredited by the South Australian Government under the Australian
Qualifications Framework to offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses
but also recognised by the DfES as a genuine provider of Degree Status
programmes.
Programme Overview
The MBA (Masters of Business
Administration) degree is probably the world’s best known and most widely
recognised postgraduate degree. In recent years the MBA degree has become
the foremost academic qualification for managers. Research has shown that
the award of the MBA assists the personal development of managers as well
as benefiting their career and professional life.
The
programme encourages applications from individuals from all walks of life,
and from all organisational, cultural and working backgrounds: engineers,
accountants, and legal practitioners, those in the caring professions and
other technically based professionals, can all benefit from the experience
of the MBA. Indeed, the programme is rooted in the belief that the wider
the range of course members' backgrounds and experiences the more it aids
the learning process. This is since they can then bring their real life,
practical experiences into the lecturing and seminar environment in best
determining the solutions in case study exercises.
The
Entrepreneurial MBA is designed for those who want to be the best prepared
in their profession as entrepreneurs in their own right or as corporate
entrepreneurs. Specifically aimed at working adults and university
graduates with limited work experience, it combines the convenience of
directed reading with the participant/faculty interaction
that comes with intensive workshops.

The
MBA course has been designed to:
provide participants with knowledge of a broad range of management issues
to enable them to become effective entrepreneurial managers.
reinforce action learning through entrepreneurial management assignments.

participants to learn the action research method through the
entrepreneurial project.
Mode: Full-Time (1 Year) 16-21 hrs a week
Commencement: September and January of every year
Course Content
The
course comprises of the 12 modules. The learning approach uses lectures,
video presentations, case studies, group discussions and directed reading.
As the action-oriented learning approach is used in the delivery of the
programme, participants are able to maximise their entrepreneurial
management skills and potential by completing the practical assignments
and examinations and in concluding the programme with the Practical
Entrepreneurial Project thereby applying theory to practice. The course
work, assignments, examinations and Entrepreneurial Project will normally
be completed in 12 months.
The
modules are as follows:
Entrepreneurship: The objective of the
module is to provide participants with an in-depth knowledge of the
concept of entrepreneurship in the context of entrepreneurs,
entrepreneurial organisations and entrepreneurial countries.
New
Venture Creation: This module features the
process of creating successful new ventures, including evaluating
opportunities, designing strategies, forming the entrepreneurial team and
developing strategies for financing.
Entrepreneurship and Globalisation: This
module is designed to expand the participant’s understanding of the role
of entrepreneurs in global business development. The module will also
examine issues in operating across international borders in a global
context.
Franchising: The objective of this module is
to provide participants with the concepts, dimensions and processes of
franchising and licensing.
Strategic Human Resource Management: This
module provides an understanding of the formal relationship between the
employer and employee and the techniques and methods aimed at making the
relationship more effective.
Leadership and Organisational Behaviour:
This module will provide the participants with a systematic study of how
individuals and groups behave within an organisational setting and the
impact of leadership on this behaviour.
Strategic Management: The aim of this module
is to provide the participant with an in-depth knowledge of the principles
and practice of corporate strategy formulation built around a systematic
approach to strategic management.
Strategic Marketing: This module is designed
to provide participants with an in-depth knowledge of the marketing
concept and the major principles, techniques and theories relating to the
strategic practice of marketing, including the development and
implementation of competitive marketing strategies.
Strategic Legal Issues: The objective of
this module is to provide the participants with an awareness and
understanding of the critical legal issues that relate to an organisation,
thus enhancing the formulation and implementation of strategies for the
organisation.
Strategic Operations Issues: The aim of this
module is to provide participants with an in-depth knowledge of strategic
operations issues that are critical for the operations of an organisation,
to the end that the operations may become more efficient and effective.
Strategic Finance Issues: The module is
designed to prepare participants for effective and efficient planning and
management of financial and resource requirements and targets. The module
is adapted for specific requirements of government, non-profit and
entrepreneurial organisations.
Entrepreneurial Project: The objective of
this module is to enable participants to undertake a major entrepreneurial
project. They will use their knowledge of action research as a method of
implementing the project and record the process.

Assessment
For
each module, participants will complete an assignment and an examination.
For the Entrepreneurial Project, the participants will complete a major
assignment comprising
a
real-life entrepreneurial / entrepreneurial venture where the participants
utilize the skills gained during the specialized programme to undertake
hands-on research in a new business enterprise or an existing workplace.
Entry requirements
For
admission into the MBA (Entrepreneurial Management) , applicants normally
must have:

a level of English proficiency satisfactory
to EIA’s Registrar; and |
|
q
an acceptable bachelors degree or a relevant
professional qualification conducted at a standard equivalent to an
Australian bachelors degree. |
q
Applicants who do not satisfy the above criteria
may be entitled to do the MBA (Entrepreneurial Management) on a stage by
stage basis if they have:

q
a level of English proficiency satisfactory
to EIA’s Registrar; and |
|
q
at least one of the following: |
1)A qualification deemed
equivalent to an Australian Advanced Diploma;
2)Relevant specialised professional or technical qualifications deemed
acceptable to EIA’s Registrar; or
3)A minimum of 3 years verifiable experience and learning deemed relevant
to course by EIA’s Registrar.
A
suitable level of English proficiency can be demonstrated by the applicant
if the applicant has:

completed studies at a tertiary level and
the medium of instruction was in English;

q
a score of 550 or better on the TOEFL; |
|
q
a score 6.0 or better on the IELTS;
|
|
q
a credit or better in English in the GCE “O”
or “A” levels or equivalent; or |
|
q
any other evidence of proficiency in English
acceptable to EIA’s Registrar; |
|
